Barry is a musician and an educator. His teaching is about far more than notes on a page — it is about confidence, enjoyment, and helping people find their place in music, whatever their age or starting point.
Teaching that starts with the person, not the instrument.
Every learner is different. Some want to play a favourite song, some want to understand how music works, and some simply want the joy of making a sound with other people. Barry begins by listening — to what someone hopes for, what they enjoy, and what makes them nervous.
From there, the instrument becomes a way in, not a test to pass. The goal is a musician who feels able to keep playing long after the lesson ends.

Confidence first
Playing music in front of another person takes courage. Lessons are built to feel safe, encouraging and free of judgement, so confidence can grow at its own pace.
Enjoyment always
People keep playing when they enjoy it. Learning is kept musical and rewarding from the very first session, not saved up for some distant day.
Curiosity
Questions are welcome. Exploring how music works, and why, matters more than drilling exercises without meaning.
Practical musicianship
The focus is on actually playing — chords, songs, rhythm and playing with others — so learning connects to real music straight away.
Individual progress
Everyone arrives from a different place. Progress is measured against where each person started, not against anyone else.
Belonging
Music is something people do together. A big part of learning is finding your place in a room where music is being made.

Barry has taught and led music with young children and adults, one-to-one and in groups, in studios, schools and community settings. The instrument might change, and the room might change, but the purpose stays the same: helping people take part.

Professional background
Alongside his work as a musician, Barry trained and worked as an educator — in the classroom, in Design & Technology, and in specialist behavioural and youth education, often with the young people hardest to reach. He has taught and led music with children and adults, one-to-one and in groups, in studios, schools and community settings.
Lessons for children are arranged and taught with clear, open communication with parents and carers.
Basic DBS certificate issued 31 August 2026. No convictions, cautions, reprimands or warnings recorded.
Current students have a home of their own.
